Hi,
This could also be a software issue. You can start by uninstalling the old touchpad driver and downloading the latest available from the Gateway support site.
I recommend also that you check your touchpad settings. I assume that you've Windows 10 - go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad. Check also the Additional settings and Gesture settings, a misconfiguration can also be responsible to a malfunction with your touchpad.
If you still have the issue, go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot. Select Hardware and Devices, then the tool will scan your laptop to find if there's any issue with your hardware.
