Joining instagram not easy!

Hello,
I created an Instagram account for my mother's business. I got a message saying

"Thanks for providing your info
We'll review your info and if we can confirm it, you'll be able to access your account within approximately 24 hours."

Then she got an email from Instagram saying

"Someone tried to sign up for an Instagram account with [her email address] If it was you, enter this confirmation code in the app:" 6-digit code.

So I go to the app. Login but all I see is the first message saying we will get back to your in 24 hours. There is NO place to enter the code.

It's like catch-22. In order to join you have enter the code but you can't enter the code until your account is approved but in order to get approval you have to enter the code.

It 's totally bizarre. Does anyone know how to get out of this loop?

[even more bizarre is that after I logout of the app, it displays a button: GET THE INSTAGRAM APP. But I'm already in the app. When I push that button, I just get a blank screen.]
