No Internet at home! Help...DEVE
Closed
Hello,
Recently...with 15 y/o son off for summer break using the PC constantly...I was informed by same that the PC is not reading URL addresses and we can not get on the internet. We called Comcast and tried all their usual tricks to include rebooting in safe mode...then Comcast made a service call and still maintain that the problem is in our PC. I have tried tools menu internet options ad nausuem, reconfiguring to the last good set up, run menu to cmd to config....My son is saying that we need a new PC...I do not have the money for a new one right now. Please help. I am posting this at my friends house....and will check replies often. Thanks to anyone who can help us with a solution and get that internet back. Tricia

Are there any other programs that can access the internet, ie: thunderbird, internet explorhorror, messanger, etc.?
If you are using a third party firewall like Kerio, make sure that you haven't inadvertently blocked Firefox.
Also try to ping something like google. Start, Run, enter C:\> ping www.google.com and see if you get a response like:
Reply from 64.208.34.100: bytes=32 time=210ms TTL=49
Reply from 64.208.34.100: bytes=32 time=211ms TTL=49
Reply from 64.208.34.100: bytes=32 time=200ms TTL=49
Reply from 64.208.34.100: bytes=32 time=201ms TTL=49
If you keep getting a Request timed out, you may have problems with the cable modem.
Hope this helps
