Hello,
my friends has a Gateway laptop and she tells me that it will not power on. I have been in classes on Computer Maintenance Technology so I am not computer illiterate. I am not with the computer so I cannot look at it. She is bringing it to me when she can get a chance to but, I am just a little dumbfounded. The box on the cord does light up when plugged in the wall and the light on the outside of the laptop does come on. This would probably leave it to being something internally wrong with the computer. What could have happened to make the computer not want to come on when the power button is pressed?

Hi there,

First step when you get the laptop check the adapter plug .there is a fuse in it of 13 Amp,check and replace it if its blown, then the input to the laptop pin ,check it with a multimeter for the output voltage it must be in a range of 17 to 19 V Dc,you will get the output voltage on the adapter itself. After tying all these if no joy feel free to revert back giving more information .

Thanks
