hi
This problem occurs when the PC is requesting an IP address from the modem, but not receiving a response
this error occurs for various reasons
1)DHCP is either turned off on the modem or not functioning
2)The modem is not responding
3)A problem with the TCP/IP stack on the PC
4)Security software is blocking DHCP
5)Incorrect WEP key
check the folowing
Unplug Ethernet -> Plug in Ethernet -> Check for connectivity
Reboot the modem/router
Check that the Ethernet or USB cable is correctly plugged in and the Ethernet or USB lights on modem/router are solid
Unplug the power to modem/router and shut down the computer. Restart the computer, and then restart the modem/router
Reset the modem/router to factory defaults <link to questions re factory settings>
Check for firewalls and spyware. You may need to disable or remove these
If this fixes the problem, re-enable their security software and refer to your security software vendor
Refer to your isp or pc vendor (to check your PC)
