My Macbook won't recognize my iPod Touch

I plug the iPod in and I hear the "iPod Charging" sound, but the iPod won't show up anywhere on my computer. It's like my computer doesn't even recognize that there's a new device plugged into it.

when i pugg my ipod into my computer i can hear the carging sound but when i open WMP it says the divice is not found. but when my brother pugs his ipod into the computer its found. B.T.W. my ipod is a touch and his is a nano. plz help me!!!!
