sound device Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,

I have a Windows XP sound device driver installed but no sound plays from my laptop at all. If I go onto Windows Media Player, a warning pops up saying:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly."

When I go to properties, it says:

    Legacy Audio Drivers
    Device Type - Sound, video and game controllers
    Manufacturer - (Standard system devices)
    Location - Unknown.

It also says that it is working properly and does not need to be updated.

Please help!

System Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

If this is a new computer - take it back and get them to fix it.

if I play music it pops up message saying there is no sound device, or it may be busy with other program.

I used to have my Windows media player. I can watch movies and hear sounds unfortunately I removed the file in the system and error occurred states: Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. Please help me I need your answer. I am not computer wizard I just know basic computers but I can follow the instruction that you can provide me.

Hi,

First try System Restore to a point before ur computer has lost its sound.
XP http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/support/sysrestore.mspx
Vista https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/

If it desn't match u'll have to reinstall ur Audio device.

try this, it worked in my system, 
search for sysconfig file, when u open it, u could find a set-up tab
there would be few item listed as a menu, those are the progrms which gets installed 
automatically when your system gets boosted up,
uncheck the unwanted application, 
check the audio related files, this would make your system even more faster than before.
