My External Hard Disk Not Working..

Hello, I had some viruses on my External Hard Disk, so i had to scan it.

the anti virus has had by default deleted all the folders i had in my External Hard Disk.

Suddenly while I was trying to recover my data my External Hard Disk Stopped Working.

When i tried to double click to on it. it says "You need to format the disk in drive D: before you can sure it. Do you want to format it now?

I am clicking yes "format disk" then "Quick Format" or/and full format.

and at the end of the format it says "windows was unable to complete the format.

I would be highly appreciated if someone could help me regarding the above. as i had some data in my External Hard disk which i need to format it so i could do recovery for my data.
