For a week I tried everything possible (disconnected all power cords, changed RAM etc) and I kept trying Kareem"s solution with no luck. Finally, I committed to Kareem's method and it worked after a half hour of trying. The trick is to hold the power button in and unplug the cord at the same time. Then hold the button for 1 minute and plug the cord in, while holding in the power button. Release the power button and the computer fan will run. Push the power button again to power off, then push the button again to power on and it should work. If it doesn't work the first time, keep trying it and it will eventually. Trust me, I wasted at least 8 hours of my life trying all of the other suggestions.
