No sound from headset.. Closed

Hello, 

I have a compaq presario V300 laptop and Sennheiser headset, It was working fine till yesterday, but I went to change the screen and after that it has stopped working. Moreover, its not even getting recognised in the control panel list, as many of u hav advised. But whenever I insert the headset sound from main speaker stops coming. I even tried with my room mate's headset, that also gave the same result.
What should I do?

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 8.0
