Cant connect to internet..

Hello,
I am having windows service pack xp sp2 in my office system.I tried to update it to windows service pack 3. But while updating it said access denied. So the installler said windows xp sp3 wasn't installed. I restarted the system everything was fine but my Internet access is not there. I installed the IE8. Still it didnt work.My LAN and my net adapter are working fine.Pls help.

it may be a DNS problem setting
in properties of network adapter set it to obtain both ip and dns automatically
