Ok, I messed up this laptop.

It had Vista on it, but reformatted with XP. It was working ok before a but some things were not working. I tried to retore the factory settings but that would not work, so tried to install XP as I had that available. I bought a copy of Vista.

Now all I get is this screen...

I tried booting it with an XP CD and a Vista CD but it won't do it.

I cannot get to the BIOS to change any settings.

How do I reformat this drive?

If you can't get into the BIOS there is nothing you can do. I would remove the hard drive and see if that ERROR let's you into the BIOS settings.

Good Luck

Do you mean remove the hard drive then boot up the laptop?

I did take it out earlier today and reformatted it, but it gets the same screen.

Took out hard drive, rebooted and can now press PF2/12 with it working. Changed the boot sequence so the CD is first.

Rebooted with vista and no HD, but it would not install.

Rebooted with XP and install runs to the point where it gives an error due to no HD.

Rebooted with HD and XP but stops at Toshiba screen.

Bad hard drive?

Got the new drive and it has corrected this problem, but now a new problem.

After I installed XP, I get "error loading operating system"

I tried rebooting with windows repair.

I did a chkdsk.

It is looking more like you have a problem with the hardware that controls the hard disk. Which means you need a new motherboard.

That was a lot of work for nothing.

Do you know where I can get one for less than $50?

Are they hard to install?

It's crazy with laptop motherboards. They cost more than buying a used working laptop.
