Wait. You're situation has changed. You've gone from no audio, to system restore to a completely fresh installation. How can you expect us to help you if you're moving the goal posts all the time? You're making more problems.

When you reinstall windows it doesn't automatically install the drivers for the hardware (sometimes it does). In your case not. You need to go to the hp website and put in your model number. Download and install all drivers.

Hello,

this means there is no audio device installed.

Can you go to start > device manager and look under audio and sound.

is there anything under it?

does it have a yellow triangle next to it?

unknown device could be your audio device.

what is the make/model of your computer?

Sometimes when my internet is down I forget the rest of my computer works.

click https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/

then click downloads and then detect my product.

once it's found it, download and install your chipset drivers and audio drivers.

Why're you clicking legacy hardware?

I didn't mention anything like that.

on the unknown device, right click it and go to properties and then go to > details and select hardware ids from the drop down.

tell me what the first line says.

You've got a lot of drivers missing.

What did you do prior to this? You must have done something.

Can you go to start and type system restore. Restore your computer to a time before then.

showstopper66,

you have done a fresh install of Windows and you're missing device drivers.

you need to, as mentioned above, go to the HP support website and download all relevant drivers first. you should not have any triangles in device manager.

If you've installed all the drivers you'll have no triangles in device manager.

show me a screenshot of device manager please.
