Last night, my Toshiba laptop froze so I did a hard reset. When I turned it back on, it did all the normal things i'd expect, until windows began to load. When the windows screeen came up it sort of froze, the download bar came up but then the whole screen went blank. I'm at a loss and this is my step-dad's laptop that i'm borrowing. Of course, I have it last when it finally takes a dumb... somebody please save my ass. Not only do I need to get homework done I need to be able to return this laptop in working order.

It's possible that hard disk sectors containing critical Windows files have failed. It might be necessary to replace the hard dirive and re-install Windows.

It is currently trying to repair disk errors?? The screen randomly appeared but it's been "fixing" errors for hours now.. I was hoping it would just fix itself but it's not looking very promising.... Is there ANY way to get my pictures and music off of here before reinstallin windows??? If I took it into a shop maybe???

It appears that you will need to buy a new hard disk and re-install Windows.

A good repair shop should be able to recover many if not all your files.

Good luck

Does the Startup repair typically take 7+ hours to finish?
