My Passport 0740 isn't detecting/

I have a western digital My Passport 0740 hard drive. It's about 3 years old now and has been working fine until one day it just stopped. It's not recognised on My Computer but I followed some other instructions about going into Device Manager and looking to see if it is registering on there and it is. The popup says that it is working properly and I tried updating drivers but it says it is up today. I've tried a different cable and nothing.

I have about 1Tb of stuff on there so I'd really like to try and get the HD working if at all possible. Or is there a way to get the stuff off it. I'm slightly limited for computer space at the minute as I am using an Asus Transformer tablet which is running Windows 8 or 8.1. I can't remember.

Hi Kferg,

I am sorry for any inconvenience caused by this issue. I would recommend you to check the drive on another PC. If there is no change, check if it is visible in Disk Management? Does it have a drive letter and a file format? If the drive does not appear, go back to Device Manager and uninstall the drive. Restart the PC and plug the My Passport back in. The OS should reinstall it. Are there any noises coming from the drive? Can you feel it spinning?

Good Morning!

Please help! I have an external hard drive, WD Passport 0740 that was working fine until now. The computer sees it when I plug it in (because I get the option to eject it), I can also see it in device manager, but I can't see it in Windows Explorer and thus, can't access the files. Through device manager, I was able to update the driver software, uninstalled it, then did a "scan for hardware changes" through which I reinstalled it and it says that the driver is working fine, but... I can`t see it in Windows Explorer.
These are all my kids' pictures, my documents,... recovered on that hard drive after a my laptop crashed. Please help!

My Western Digital My Passport is not being detected. It's not showing up in Device Manager. However,

a) Lights appear on the drive.
b) I can hear the hard drive spinning

Can you help?

WD My Passport Wireless pro. This has never connected to wifi

Hello, This device has bever connected to wifi. Nor has it ever given a wifi signal for other devices to connect to. This is a $250 paperweight.

Hello,

My 1 TB WD external drive was working fine, and I plugged it in today and no files are showing up. Disk utility shows that there is still the 200 GB being used, but is unable to unmount it. Any help would be great!

Configuration: Mac OS X (10.10.1) / Safari 8.0

Hello,

My Western Digital is not getting detected which was working 1 week before. Suddenly this was not detected and following is happening after connecting in my laptop (Win 7 64 bit OS)
a) Light appearing on the drive.
b) Hearing sound from the drive.

But not detected. Please help me on this.
