Where To Download Free eBooks and Audiobooks

If you love to read, you’ll be please to find out there are a number of online resources where you can find eBooks and audiobooks for free. Each year as the copyright on hundreds of classic and modern texts expire, they become available in the public domain, where they can be accessed legally for free. Check out the websites in this article which allow you to download books and audiobooks in the public domain.




Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg was launched by Michael Hart, a writer, philanthropist, and creator of eBooks, who aimed to create free a public library. Project Gutenberg’s catalog has now soared over 60,000 eBooks published in a range of languages, including English, French, Russian, Spanish, German, Portuguese, and many more. You will find many classic works from internationally renowned writers whose works have reached the public domain, such as F. Kafka, W.E. Du Bois, H.D. Thoreau, and O. Wilde, amongst many others. For your convenience, many books are available in ePub or PDF format. There's also an iOS app available.


Open Library

Open Library aims to create a free open library for the world. It currently hosts about 30,000 public domain works in several languages, including Spanish, Danish, and Italian. The site is very user friendly and allows you to quickly browse your favorite content. They offer everything from kids stories to military strategy books. Check it out today!


The Europeana Collection

The Europeana Collection is a online platform that provides free access to a wide range of content, including books, film, music, artworks, and more. It sources its archives from libraries and museums around Europe, thus providing an eclectic source of content. The Europeana Collection currently includes more than 50 million artifacts, all which can be easily searched from the site. It’s also available in all 27 European languages.


The World Public Library

The World Public Library is an online resource with thousands eBooks, audiobooks, and articles in the public domain. To get started, simply request your free eLibrary Card. Once obtained, you will be able to browse their Millennium catalog with works available in over 300 languages. This collection covers a wide range of subjects, including history, sociology, economics, philosophy, and more.


LibriVox

LibriVox is an online digital library containing thousands of audiobooks in the public domain. LibroVox leverages its community to submit voluntary recordings of texts, which are then posted on the site for free access. The platform currently has over 13,000 audiobooks. While the majority of content is in English, there a growing range of content available in other languages, including Arabic, Dutch, Spanish, Hebrew, and many more. LibriVox also offers an app for Android and iOS devices.
