Toshiba Satellite L35

Hi, my son forgot the password to his Toshiba Satellite L35 series laptop that uses Windows XP Home Edition. I think it's the password to the computer itself & not windows password though. When the computer is powered on a black screen appears & a six inch bar comes up in the center of the screen and reads: "Enter password" [ _ ]. It never boots up past this and I've tried to reboot the computer using the recovery CD with no luck. Does any one know a work around for this? Thanks a ton.....
