Having same problem with Inspiron 1526 laptop....Vista. Thought mine was locked forever and finally left it sitting a few minutes in this suspended start phase, then, pulled power cord and battery, plugged back in, rebooted and it booted normally again. Might try the 45 sec. hold on power button if problem returns. It does look like it goes to hibernation........come to think of it.
Please try the below mentioned steps and see if the problem resolves:
1. Connect the AC adapter to a known good power outlet. Check Power LED indicator on AC Adapter with/without plugging into the Notebook.
2. If LED on the AC Adapter goes off only after connecting to notebook, the issue is with the motherboard.
3. If the AC Adapter LED is ON, then remove external peripherals, battery, AC Adapter and press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to drain Flea power.
4. Plug in the AC Adapter and battery and check if the computer powers on.
Do reply with results.

Please proceed with the suggestions from Acer Support. If possible try calling Acer's technical support for guidance on flushing the BIOS. Note that you should plug your computer to a good, working UPS before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.
