If you just want to recover the pictures I suggest you remove the hard drive. Put it into a USB hard drive adapter. Then you can use it as an external disk on your computer. You will need to determine if the drive is either SATA or PATA (also called IDE). Any laptop built in the last 5 years probably uses SATA drives. A PATA drive interface has lots of pins sticking out of the plug. You can get the interface adapter box on Amazon for less than $20. The drive just plugs into the adapter and you slide the case over the drive and attach two screws. Here is link:
