My daughters laptop is a Toshiba Satellite and it was very slow. I ran windows defender and after completion it said there was one critical error, so I got rid of it and now on switching it on, it only displays a black screen with a cursor and nothing else. Can anyone please help?

What version of Windows are you using?

Can you start from the Windows DVD and run "start-up repair"?

Hi, the laptop is on Windows 7 and we do not have any repair discs as it was all set up when we bought it.If you power on and press the F8 button it gives a message to start up in safe mode.after selecting this, it just goes to the blank screen with the cursor.

Hi and thanks a lot for the info provided. After much consideration and pondering over what to do next I have decided that I really do not have the confidence or the expertise to attempt this fix so I will be enlisting the assistance of a local computer shop to hopefully restore it most likely in less than half the time than it would take me!

Thank you again and keep up the good work.
