Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is the seventeenth installment of the iconic Call of Duty franchise. This title once again manages to revolutionize the FPS genre with a story based during the Cold War in the 1980s.

Plot

In terms of a timeline, the game is a sequel to the events of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops and a prequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops II. The events of the single-player campaign take place during the notorious early 1980's Cold War. You will be taking control of Bell, a soldier who is recruited into a multinational task force created in order to eliminate the alleged Soviet spy Perseus, a cold-blooded individual who has been hired to subvert the United States' army and help the Soviet Union to regain the balance of power. 

Gameplay

• Epic campaign: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold war has one of the most enjoyable single-player campaigns ever created by Activision. You will come face-to-face with several historical figures, as you battle around the globe through iconic war locations such as Vietnam, Turkey, Berlin, and the Soviet KGB headquarters. 
• Multiple game modes for all tastes: although the highlight is still the different multiplayer modes (which have been renewed to accommodate a greater number of players per game), Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War also includes a solo campaign inspired by historical events and there is the welcome return of Zombies mode!
• Cross-platform play: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War supports full crossplay between PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, so that you can play with (or against) your friends no matter which platform each they are on.

Graphics and sound

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War sports beautiful-looking visuals, and it is undoubtedly one of the best-looking installments in the series. You can expect to see extremely detailed character models, stunning explosions, and each and every single battle location is full of atmosphere. The game also features impressive ray tracing lighting, although you will need a powerful graphics card in order to run the highest graphics settings. As always, the sound effects are also nothing but outstanding. 

Duration and game modes

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has received criticism for the relatively short duration of the game's single-player campaign mode. It will take approximately 5,5 hours to complete the main objectives in this mode. If you strive to achieve 100% completion, you can expect to spend around 9-10 hours.

That said, most gamers will probably end up spending much more time competing in one or more of the epic multiplayer modes of this game. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War comes packed with a broad number of classic and new multiplayer modes, such as Team Deathmatch, Free for All, Domination, Hardpoint, and Gunfight. For the ones who love to slaughter the undead, Activision has decided to bring back the all-time favorite Zombies mode to Black Ops Cold War. This cooperative game mode puts up to four players in front of countless hordes of zombies. Your goal is to survive as long as possible.
