Guild Wars 2 is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), the sequel to Guild Wars. The game was developed by ArenaNet and the studio is also its current publisher, replacing NCSoft (2012-2015). The MMORPG was first released on August 28th, 2012 and was followed by two released expansions and one upcoming expansion.

In a beautifully designed landscape, full of characters and scenery that will take your breath away, you will need to rely on other player's help to defeat the enemy. Still, if you prefer, you can also attack other users in epic player versus player (PvP) battles. On this Guild Wars 2 download page, we discuss some of the game’s key features, as well as some additional information.

As mentioned above, the game is an MMORPG, meaning that the events happen in real-time. The player can create their character by choosing one of the five races and one of the eight professions. This combination will be decisive for the character's skills - not every skill will be accessible. With a skill-based combat system, slots have a given role, where the first five are for the weapon and the profession, the sixth is dedicated to health.

The seventh, eighth, and ninth slots aren't defined, and the tenth slot is for an elite skill. Every player will have to unravel their personal story. Thanks to the game's intelligent combat system, When you aim at an enemy with your mouse, your character will attack automatically. There are also multiple moves to avoid opposing attacks. When it comes to progression, the more missions you complete, the more experience points you gain. Another way to gain experience is by exploring new regions.

  • Setting: After the events of the first installment, Guild Wars, five Elder Dragons have awaken, forcing the people of Tyria to fall into decline, destroying the high fantasy world. All of the Guild Wars 2 races - The Norn (Nordic hunters), the Asura (a technologically advanced race), the Sylvari (a mysterious new race), the Charr (feline creatures), and the Humans - have to face the consequences and survive.

  • Guild Wars 2 classes: In total, there are eight professions: Mesmer, Guardian, Necromancer, Ranger, Elementalist, Warrior, Engineer, Thief, and one exclusive to the DLCs: Revenant. These professions are divided into three armor classes: Scholars, Adventurers, and Soldiers.

Game modes

  • Different regions: Tyria is made up of several cities that are very different from each other. Rata Sum, Black Citadel, Divinity's Reach, Hoelbrak, and The Grove are some of them.

  • Surprise events: At certain times there will be new vents distributed throughout the map in which nearby players can participate. These events can consist of missions such as killing a boss, being an escort, collecting raw material, etc.

  • Dynamic level adjustment: Depending on the area of the map in which you are located, your level will adapt to the one of that particular region, in such a way that all players in that area will be on equal terms.

  • Expansions: The game has two released expansions: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns (23rd, 2015) and Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire (September 22nd, 2017). The third expansion, called Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons, is coming in 2021.
