The user can go to BIOS settings by pressing the access BIOS settings key when the laptop starts up. The access BIOS settings key is a single key or a combination of keys which need to be pressed to enter the BIOS menu. The BIOS access keys are different for every laptop manufacturer. It is important for the user to know the key commands for BIOS settings to enter the BIOS menu, to change settings like the boot sequence and hardware related changes, etc. Generally, it has been observed that the function keys along with the CTRL and ALT keys are the most commonly used access BIOS settings keys for laptops.
The most common Access BIOS key is the "DEL" button or "F2". This depends on the laptop model, however, and can be confusing if you do not know which key to press. Here is a list of laptop brands and models with the keyboard commands / key for accessing the BIOS Setup:
Acer: F1, F2, CTRL+ALT+ESC
ARI: CTRL+ALT+ESC, CTRL+ALT+DEL
AST: CTRL+ALT+ESC, CTRL+ALT+DEL

Gateway 2000 1440: F1
Gateway 2000 Solo: F2
HP (Hewlett-Packard): F1, F2 (Laptop, ESC)

IBM PS/2: CTRL+ALT+INS after CTRL+ALT+DEL
IBM Thinkpad (newer) Windows: Programs-Thinkpad CFG.
Micron: F1, F2, or DEL
Packard Bell: F1, F2, Del
