After the amazing Halloween update, it’s now time to wrap up the year with the free Christmas update ! For this holiday season, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will entirely redecorate your island - if you want to know all about it, then keep reading !
Apart from the Christmas and the New Year’s Eve specific events and items, Animal Crossing: New Horizons offers a general winter update: it includes 9 new reactions and 6 new hairstyles (go to the Nook Shop Terminal to buy them with your Nook miles!), a house item storage expansion (by 800 slots), and the possibility to visit random Dream Islands with Luna. There was also a Turkey Day event for Thanksgiving.
You should note that this time, some items are locked depending on your location, which means you will not have access to the same items if you live in the Northern Hemisphere as if you live in the Southern Hemisphere.
From the 27th of November onwards, it is possible to see some light snowfall for the first time (in the Northern hemisphere). The snow will continue to cover the ground and will finally stick to it on December 11th.
Some bigger snowflakes will be floating in the air - and yes, you can collect them ! More than that, the floating snowflakes are also necessary for your winter DIY crafting recipes like Falling-Snow Wall, Iceberg Wall, and Snowflake Pochette.
Once the snow cover period is around, everyday, once a day, you will find two snowballs next to each other - their location will be random so make sure to explore every corner of your island. You will be able to kick them around and make them bigger.
Then, you will be able to push them together and form a Snowboy ! If your Snowboy is perfect (that is, the two snowballs are the exact same size), he will give you a Large Snowflake and a Winter Large Snowflake DIY Crafting Recipe. He will be melting for the following three days and will give you one Large Snowflake each day.
If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, once the snow sticks to the ground, you may be able to see Aurora Borealis weather events. Indeed, every island has a different weather pattern that will define if it is possible to enjoy it, and if so - when.
Toy Day is the Christmas Eve event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and it has appeared in almost every Animal Crossing game (except for Wild World). This year, it is held on December 24th and you will be able to meet Jingle the Reindeer. Jingle will ask you to craft some Festive papers and once there are enough of them, you will get to distribute presents to all the villagers, dressed as Santa Claus.
To celebrate the New Year’s Eve, a huge countdown clock will be present in front of the Resident Services. Everyone (and even Isabelle) will be there, counting down until midnight and waiting to enjoy the fireworks !
Nook’s Cranny has a new stock of items for the season. A new set of Christmas theme items is available to purchase from December 1st and will last until December 25th. This Christmas Toy Set includes Kids tent, Puppy plushie, Dinosaur toy, Doll house, Mini circuit, Pop-up book, RC helicopter, Set of stockings, and Tin robot that come all in different colors.
In order to make sure you are getting more and more into the Christmas mood, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will progressively add some new items. Starting December 15th (and lasting until January 6th) you will notice that some cedar trees are decorated in festive lights. Giving those trees a shake will give you new craft materials: a blue, red, or golden Ornament. If you want to get Festive Christmas Ornament DIY Crafting Recipes, make sure to shoot down some Balloon presents !
With the cold days around, the villagers of your island are starting to dress warmer. If you too want to avoid freezing, you should have a look at the Able Sister’s tailor shop because they adapt their stock according to the season.
We hope that you now know everything about the Christmas season on Animal Crossing: New Horizons and that our article got you in the right mood to enjoy the winter update !
