Age of Empires: Definitive Edition (2018) is the edition to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the famous game that was initially released in 1997. It brings modernized gameplay and new and improved visuals to the real-time strategy game (RTS), among other features.

Gameplay

Age of Empires is a history-based game. With an initial release in October 1997, it was one of the first real-time strategy games in this genre. The player gets to develop different civilizations between the Stone Age and the Iron Age. There are 16 civilizations in total - 12 original and 4 in the extension Rise of Rome.

Additions: There are many additions to the original game. Some of them include: Attack Move (send your army to a location and attack any opponents), Fast farm reseeding, the possibility to switch between full screen and windowed mode, send a villager to gather or build, and more.
Color Code: The spectator hotkeys, 1-8, correspond to the Player Colors, as it follows: 1 = Blue, 2 = Red, 3 = Yellow, 4 = Brown, 5 = Orange, 6 = Green, 7 = Magenta, 8 = Cyan.

Age of Empires has several game modes: single-player, campaign and multiplayer. There are 16 civilisations to choose from, each with their own unique play styles thanks to their strengths and weaknesses.
