How to sync email account on iPhone: Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook
If you want to synchronise your chosen mail account, be it Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, AOL, Exchange, Hotmail, or any other accounts to your iPhone, iTouch or other iOS device, without using other mail clients or other applications, follow the steps in this article.
How to add a new account on the Mail app on the iPhone?

Go to: Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Add Account

On the next page, select your chosen mail provider. This method works for all of the accounts displayed below.

You will then be prompted to connect to your chosen account, for this example, an Outlook (Hotmail) Account.
Manual Account Setup:
If this does not work for you, or you cannot see your email provider in the above list, you can Manually add your email address and mailbox.

Once again, go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Add Account. This time instead of selecting one of the preselected email accounts, select Other at the bottom of the page.

Select Add Mail Account

Enter your account details: Name / Email / Password / Description

Select POP at the of the page, and then proceed to enter the remainder of the details.
Detailed Example
Here is an example of what you would need to do for an Outlook (hotmail) account.

Click on POP

In "Server received", enter this: Hostname: pop3.live.com

Username: Your Hotmail/Live address

Password: password
-
In "Mail Server", enter this: Hostname: smtp.live.com

Username: Your Hotmail/Live address

Password: password
Once this is filled, click Save in the upper right, and the setup is complete.
