PlayStation Plus free games: September 2023, price rise

PlayStation has announced that it is raising prices on all PlayStation Plus subscription packages. Here you will find new prices for PS Plus Essential, Extra and Premium, and also learn what new games you can play for free with the Essential subscription in September of 2023.

Sony is raising PlayStation Plus prices in September 2023

The service PlayStation Plus offers three subscription modalities (Essential, Extra and Premium) with which you can access free games and get many other benefits, from the most basic to the most complete plan.

Sony recently announced (and this is a bit of sad news) that prices for all three annual subscription packages will increase by about 35% from the 6th of September, 2023. The new subscription prices are as follows:

  • PlayStation Plus Essential 12-month subscription — $79.99 (up from $59.99): monthly games, online multiplayer, discounts and exclusive content, cloud storage, Share Play, access to the PlayStation Plus collection, and game support.
  • PlayStation Plus Extra 12-month subscription — $134.99 (up from $99.99): All of the above and access to the games catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics.
  • PlayStation Plus Premium 12-month subscription — $159.99 (up from $119.99): All of the above, plus access to the PlayStation Classics catalog and the chance to try games before you get them.

Purchasing a PlayStation Plus plan is necessary to play most games purchased on a disc or downloaded from the Store online. However, others do not require a prior subscription, such as Fornite, Apex Legends or Call of Duty.

What PlayStation Plus Essential games are free in September 2023?

Every month PlayStation announces new free video games that you can get from the PlayStation Store. Once downloaded, you can play them whenever you want as long as you maintain your PlayStation Plus subscription. Here we bring you the PS Plus Essential games available for free from September 5 until October 2, 2023.

Black Desert (travel edition) / PS4

If you love MMORPGs, then Black Desert is a great option with spectacular PvE and massive PvP battles. In a fantasy land, two states compete, Republic of Calpheon and Kingdom of Valencia. The point of contention is precious black gems... You fight battles, build and grow riches, trade, day turns to night, and even the weather changes in this addictive game that received good reviews and a 73/100 score on Metacritic. Black Desert supports cross-platform play between PS and XBox.

Saints Row / PS4, PS5

Saints Row is the new (fifth) version of the single-player action-adventure game of the same name, which, while not getting rave reviews, is still quite interesting due to the huge open world. You find yourself in the gangster-infested fictional city of Santo Ileso, which resembles Las Vegas, and control the leader of the gang, nicknamed "The Boss". Your unit called the Saints must complete a series of linear missions in order to progress through the game. It was the plot of the game that caused criticism, but you can still try the game, since it is free this month.

Generation Zero / PS4

Generation Zero is a game where a Scandinavian noir is crossed with The Terminator. In this cooperative open-world first-person survival shooter, we're dealing with a dystopian setting in Sweden. Power has been seized by countless merciless robots, and you play as a teenager who needs to survive and find other people. You can play this game alone or online with up to three other players.

End of PS Plus Collection

Since the launch of PS5 in 2020, Plus subscribers who own  this latest generation console could enjoy free PS Plus Collection, which includes 20 PS4 games such as The Last of Us Remastered, Days Gone, God of War, Bloodborne, Resident Evil VI, Monster Hunter World, Call of Duty: Black Ops III – Zombies Chronicles Edition, etc. However, Sony recently announced the termination of this bonus. As of May 9, 2023, the free PlayStation Plus Collection of PS4 games will no longer be available for new PS5 players. If you have already redeemed any of the games in this collection, they will still be associated with your profile and you will be able to download them without any restrictions. If you are PS Plus Collection subscriber, you could redeem these games before May 9th

New free games will continue to be added to PlayStation Plus on a monthly basis.
