How to fix sound problems: Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 7

No matter what version of Windows you are running, you may end up with no output sound. Although usually, you can fix it quickly, sometimes you need more help. Here is a list of the most common solutions to this problem.

How to check the speaker output?

  • Click on the speaker icon on the taskbar.
  • Open the speakers' list and check the right audio output is selected.

How to run the audio troubleshooter?

  • Open the Start menu by clicking on the Windows icon on the taskbar.
  • In the search field, type audio troubleshooter and select it.
  • Follow the troubleshooter process.

How to check that Windows is up-to-date?

  • Open the Start menu by clicking on the Windows icon on the taskbar.
  • In the search field, type Windows update and open the update menu (or go to Update & Security  > Windows Update  Check for updates).
  • Make all updates and restart your computer.

How to check your audio driver?

  • Open the Start menu by clicking on the Windows icon on the taskbar.
  • In the search field, type device manager and open the device manager menu.
  • Open the sub list related to Sound.
