Apple Music Sing: How to use the new karaoke mode?

Apple is releasing a new feature to Apple Music: Sing. Apple Music subscribers will be able to use the new, built-in karaoke mode. It will be available to all Apple Music subscribers and will work on iPhones, iPads and Apple TV 4K. This article will look at all we know about Apple Music: Sing and how to get started with it.

What are the key features of Apple Music Sing?

Apple Music Sing develops on Apple Music's lyrics function that already allowed users to view lyrics of a large selection of songs as they were listening to them. The main features are the following:

  • Adjustable vocals: You can change the song's vocal levels. You cannot remove them entirely, however you can considerably reduce their volume so they do not override your singing.
  • Real-time lyrics: The lyrics are animated and adapt to the vocal rhythm.
  • Background vocals: If there are background vocals in the song, Apple Sing will animate those lyrics separately from the main vocals.
  • Duet mode: If you want to perform a duet with a friend you can use the duet view. This allows you to see multiple vocalists on separate sides of the screen. You can also use this feature so that either you or your friend takes the main vocals and the other the backing vocals.

How many songs will there be?

It would be a tough ask for Apple to integrate this feature onto the their entire music library which has over 100 millions songs. Instead they will be producing 50 dedicated companion playlists that will feature fully optimised songs, ready for Apple Music Sing. There will be a selection of classic karaoke songs, duets, choruses and anthems.
