EVE Online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in a space fighting universe. The game was developed by CCP Games and was initially released in 2003.

Gameplay

  • EVE Online gameplay: As mentioned above, EVE Online is an MMORPG where every player can have up to three characters. Characters are divided into four races (Amarr, Gallente, Minmatar, and Caldari), each of which has three bloodlines. Those races come with partially customizable pre-defined physical features. With its persistent world, the universe of EVE Online continues to evolve even when the player is offline. When it comes to combat, in this game players control primarily flying spaceships but they also have the possibility to dock at stations. Staying at stations allows players to repair and refit the ships. Players have up to 50 skills to develop by training them. This happens in real-world time, thus allowing players to continue to develop them even when they are offline. Some of the activities are mining, piracy, manufacturing, trading, exploration, and combat, among others.

  • EVE Online ships: In this game, there are four classes of ships: small (frigates and destroyers), medium (cruisers and battlecruisers), large (battleships), and extra-large (carriers, dreadnoughts, force auxiliary ships, supercarriers, and titans). Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages in order to contribute to a balanced gameplay. In addition to that, characters are free to fly on ships designed by different races, without this resulting in a decreased performance.

  • Online map: Named the Star map, the EVE Online map consists of the Star Map itself and the Solar System Map - however, there is also a new map, called Map Beta that aims to replace the Solar System Map. When accessing the Control Panel players can change the map representation (2D or 3D), as well as the autopilot settings.

Game modes

  • Combat: Combat is available in player versus player (PvP), as well as in player versus environment (PvE).
  • Servers: In total, there are four servers in EVE Online: Tranquility, that is the main server, Serenity, that is the China-based server, Duality, that is the semi-public event test server, and Singularity, that is the public test server.

Age rating

EVE Online is rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) as suitable for teens and older. The game contains violence and suggestive themes.
