Word - letters are overlapping in a document

Microsoft Word is the most widely used office software across the world, to create documents that can be shared. It may happen that sometimes in Word the user comes across problems such as an overlapping of letters in a document. This problem persists even when the document is printed. The solution to this overlapping of letters issue can be tackled in two ways. In the first instance, one needs to close applications like Outlook before accessing Word. The other solution is to make changes in the settings of Print Background that can be accessed through the menu option.

Issue

If you open a Word document and you find out that the text is overlapping, making the document impossible to read and that problem is the same when printing the file, then follow the instructions below.

Solution

Two possible solutions:
  • Close Outlook before opening Word
  • Open Word: Menu/Tools/ Options,'Print'tab, uncheck the option 'Print Background'. Close and restart Word and open the document.
