The Best Apps to Watch Free Movies and TV Series

If you enjoy checking out your favourite TV series and movies from your smartphone or tablet, there are a few great apps you should know about. In this article we’ll fill you in on our recommended selection of apps to watch TV series and movies via online streaming.



Netflix

It’s one of the most popular streaming services, and now it lets you share user accounts.

Launched in 1998, Netflix has lead the way in online streaming, and “Netflix and chill” has now become a cultural phenomenon. In addition to its own original content, Netflix has a large catalog of films, series, cartoons, and documentaries. All content is sorted by genre, and it's algorithms conveniently make suggestions of similar content based on your viewing history. Movies and TV shows can be viewed via streaming, and certain content can be downloaded for offline viewing.

Subscriptions start at $7.99 per month. Netflix also offers a multi-screen subscription for users who wish to stream on multiple devices simultaneously or share their accounts with family members. In addition to its website, you can also get Netflix via the Android and iOS apps. However, first you’ll need to sign up for a subscription on Netflix‘s website.


Amazon Prime Video

In addition to a free delivery service, Amazon’s Prime also includes a streaming service with many TV series and original content.

Do you have an Amazon Prime subscription? If so, you should know that you can access Amazon Prime Video at no additional cost! This streaming service, which is much like Netflix, has its own original content – mostly TV series. It also offers a large number of movies, including Blockbusters, Classics, Independent films, and more.

There’s also a mobile app available for Android and iOS.

An Amazon Prime subscription will run you $119 per year, or $12.99 per month. This price includes all Prime services: free package delivery, Prime Video, Amazon Music streaming, additional cloud storage, and more. For more information about Prime Video, check out their site.


Hulu

This one is a favorite for fans of the Japanese series.

While Hulu is not the best known in the streaming world, it hosts an eclectic range of content! Similar to other streaming services, it produces its own original content, such as the series The Handmaid's Tale. The service was established by a partnership between Walt Disney, NBCUniversal, WarnerMedia, and others in 2010.

Hulu is only available in the U.S., unless you use a VPN, and subscriptions start at $5.99 per month. Keep in mind that Hulu‘s original content is generally available on other streaming services. However, the service stands out for hosting many Japanese series. In addition you can access content from several popular American television channels. Find out more about Hulu here.

Disney+

Catch all your favorite Disney, Marvel, National Geographic, and Pixar classics on Disney+.

Disney Plus was recently launched by Disney in 2019 in the United States. It's faces competitors, Netflix and Prime, but has an advantage with its exclusive content. You will find many of your favorites, such as all Star Wars movies and all 30 seasons of The Simpsons. Conveniently watch from your phone, tablet, computer, or smart TV. Disney+ includes a 7-day free trial, but after you will need to take a subscription to access content. The options are $7/month, or $70/year.

HBO GO

Rewatch your favorite Game of Thrones episodes and much more with HBO GO.

HBO has a significant number of original series, including Games of Thrones, Los Soprano, and Band of Brothers. If you are in the U.S. and have a standard television services that includes HBO, you can also access this platform for free. The HBO GO app is included by default in certain Smart TVs, and it is also available for iOS and Android.


MUBI

Film masterpieces and independent productions.

MUBI hosts a carefully curated catalog of cult, independent, classic, and award winning films from popular film festivals. This service stands out for true cinema fanatics! You’ll find a lot of crafty lesser-known content. To help you discover new films, their experts pick and post a new film each 30 days.

A MUBI subscription lets you stream content on multiple screens as well as download content on your devices. The app currently being factory installed on many LG, Samsung, and Sony TVs. It’s also possible to download the app version for iOS and Android. Check out MUBI's site to find out more.
