The new line of LG notebooks breaks records for lightness and thinness without sacrificing performance. If you're planning to buy a new laptop, here are the specs and innovations of the 2023 Gram series laptops, including a glass laptop with a "hidden" glowing trackpad and the world's thinnest laptop.
What are the specs of Gram series laptops?
LG first showcased its updated Gram series of laptops at CES 2023 and has been selling them since early 2023. Incredibly light and compact, the new generation of Gram laptops is sure to meet today's performance requirements. They feature Intel 13th Raptor Lake processor, currently the newest and most powerful Intel chip, competing with the Apple M2 and only to be surpassed by the next Intel Meteor Lake processor and the Apple M3 chip. The new Gram series notebooks also have Gen4 NVMeTM SSDs in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities (depending on the version) and the Intel Iris Xe graphics card which, although inferior to the latest Intel Arc Alchemist and similar Nvidia cards, still allows you to confidently play many games.
The Gram line is represented by laptops with a screen diagonal of 17, 16, 15 and 14 inches. These are IPS displays with a special coating that eliminates glare. All new generation Gram laptops include Dolby Atmos audio which delivers impressive stereo sound, and support LG Glance privacy tools and Intel Unison sync. The new power supply included with all notebooks in the series is also ultra-compact. The Gram series battery has an impressive capacity of 72 Wh.
As before, the series includes a 2-in-1 laptop with 360-degree rotatinghinges. These updated 2-in-1 models feature either 14-inch or 16-inch IPS touch displays with 2560 x 1600 (16-inch) or 1920 x 1200 (14-inch) resolutions. In addition, they include pre-installed note-taking and drawing applications designed for the included LG Stylus Pen.
LG Gram SuperSlim, the thinnest laptop
The new Gram SuperSlim (previously UltraSlim) is the thinnest laptop, not only breaking the previous LG record, but thinner than any other current generation laptop on the market. It measures just 0.43 inches (and 0.49 inches on the left side due to ports including two Thunderbolt 4 and another USB Type-C port) and weights 2.7 pounds - in comparison, the MacBook Air M2 weighs 2.7 pounds and is 0.44 inches thick. The Gram SuperSlim features a 15.6-inch 1080p OLED display.
Like other computers in this series, the Gram SuperSlim is equipped with a 13th generation Intel Raptor Lake processor and Intel Iris Xe graphics. You can choose between 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB DDR5 RAM configurations, and between 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of SSD storage.
Gram Style - "glass" notebook
The LG Gram Style is the most innovative of the series in terms of design. No, it's not made entirely of glass, but it gives this impression. How does it work? The base of this laptop is made of nano-magnesium alloy, and its sparkling lid and keyboard are covered with Gorilla Glass 3. The trackpad looks very original and unusual - if you do not touch it, you can hardly see it. But as soon as you touch it with your finger, two LED lines instantly light up along its borders.
Available in 16-inches and 14-inches versions, the LG Gram Style also has anti-glare OLED screens: 3200 x 2000 @ 120Hz on the 16-inch model and 2880 x 1800 OLED @ 90Hz on the 14-inch variant. Like the SuperSlim, the Gram Style is powered by a 13th Gen Intel Raptor Lake Core processor as well as Intel Iris Xe graphics. It also comes with up to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage.
What are the prices for LG Gram laptops?
The most budget in the Gram series is the base laptop LG Gram 16" with and 512 GB SSD for $1099.
The 2-in-1 14" Gram laptop is available from $1,499.
For $14,899, you can get a Gram Style 14" laptop (you'll have to pay $1,799 for the 1TB SSD version), and for $1999 - Gram Style 16 laptop with 1TB SSD.
LG Gram Superslim 15.6 model is available for $1699 (for the 512GB SSD version) and for $1999 (for the 1TB SSD version).
Gram series laptops are among the best all-round lightweight laptops on the market today, which can also include a number of other models. Some reviewers have labeled the Gram laptops as the MacBook Air M2 "killer", as they are lighter, slightly cheaper and have more options in terms of versatility and ports. However, the dilemma of choice here still sounds like this: Are you an MacOS or a Windows fan? Each genre has its own advantages and distinctive features, and the choice certainly depends not only on technical parameters, but also on the aesthetic preferences of a particular user.
