Fix Error Message When Connecting PS3 via HDMI Cable

Sometimes PS3 consoles, when connected with an HDMI cable to the TV to play video games, display a Mode not supported message. This FAQ will show you how to get rid of this error message.

Fix Error When Connecting PS3 with HDMI Cable

  • Hook up your PS3 to your TV with the HDMI cable. Now, when you turn on your PS3, hold the power button on the PS3 for 5 seconds.
  • It will reset the PS3 video options and recognize the HDMI connection. It will then search for the correct resolution settings on the TV. Press X to confirm.

Worked thank you

Yo, don't give up if it doesn't work the first time... I think it took me 3 rotations before I got rid of the black-sky neon snowfall and was warmly greeted by PS3 magenta...

Much obliged!!!

Small Samsung TV gave a "Not Supported Mode" error. This fix had our PS3 up and running in less than 3 minutes. Thank you!

Actually works, thanks!

Thanks for posting this. I’m old and I miss the written directions games used to have. Oh well thankfully you figured it out for me.
