How to share files without HomeGroup: Windows 10

Microsoft removed HomeGroup from Windows 10. However, you still have ways to share online, and here we will share them with you.

Homegroup not showing up Windows 10

With the release of Windows version 1803, one of the changes made by Microsoft is the removal of the HomeGroup feature in Windows. If you have updated your PC to version 1803 or later, you will not find Workgroup in File Explorer. How then to exchange new files and printers? There are several ways to share files in Windows 10 without a homegroup:

Use OneDrive

You can transfer files from one computer to another using the OneDrive service, however, its free disk space is limited to 5 GB (for a fee, you can buy much more capacious storage).

To send files from your PC, sign in to OneDrive, right-click on the file or folder you want to share, select Share OneDrive Link, and place the link on the computer you want to send it to.

Use a third party transfer tool

There are free third-party tools available to transfer data from PC to PC, although there are not many of them:

This free tool supports Windows 11/10/8.1/8/7/Vista/XP. With it, you can send files from PC to PC, transfer apps, backup and restore.

PCmover Express by Laplink is another data migration tool for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 10, 11. You can transfer data between computers with different versions of Windows. Unfortunately, this is a paid solution, it will cost you $29.95.

  • Windows Easy Transfer

This free tool was discontinued with Windows 10 and is only for older OS versions: Windows 7, Vista and XP. With his help, you can send  files and folders, user accounts, email and Internet favorites.
