Facebook Lite is, like its name suggests, a lighter version of the popular social network's mobile application. The software takes up less space on your mobile device and uses much less data that its more full-bodied parent app, meaning pages load quickly and you can worry less about going over your monthly data limit.

What is it?

As with the parent app, Facebook Lite enables you to connect with friends and family, save photos, keep up with the latest news and world events and buy and sell locally on Facebook Marketplace. The only difference is that Facebook Lite is smaller and is designed to be used in 2G conditions. Facebook Lite not only allows you to connect to Facebook with very little internet connectivity, but it also allows you to access Messenger without needing to download the separate application.

How does it work?

The normal 'parent' app weighs approx 57MB but Facebook Lite comes in at a mere 1.59MB, it is also designed to use less RAM and CPU power and so it works well on cheaper and less powerful phones. Facebook Lite doesn't download pictures in High Def resolution or autoplay videos (perfect for saving data on a more limited plan) and the interface is more stripped down than the original with bigger, chunkier buttons and a more basic layout. Having said all that, it does exactly what it's supposed to and for a fraction of the size-try it out!
