The Grand Theft Auto saga is known worldwide and hardly needs an introduction. According to many, Grand Theft Auto IV is one of the best titles in the series. Especially when it comes to Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition, as it includes the main game and both GTA IV episodic expansion packs: The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. Discover its different protagonists, walk the streets of the city, and immerse yourself in the intriguing stories.

Plot

As mentioned before, GTA IV: The Complete Edition is a compilation of every edition belonging to the fourth GTA installment. Here is the story of each of them:

Grand Theft Auto IV

Niko Bellic, once a soldier in the Bosnian War, is tricked by his cousin Roman into traveling to Liberty City. He assures him he will have a worry-free life full of luxuries, but soon after arriving in Liberty City, Niko realizes his cousin is trapped in a gangster life with many debts to settle. Niko is willing to help, while at the same time, he plans to take revenge on those persons who betrayed him back in the war.

Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned

In this case, the protagonist is Johnny Klebitz, whose story also takes place in Liberty City. Johnny is a biker who finds himself in charge of a biker gang called The Lost. When the gang's previous leader Billy Grey is released from jail, Billy is furious to learn that there is a new man in charge of the Lost, and he will do everything it takes to get back on the throne.

GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony

Luis Fernando López is the hitman and bodyguard of a character who goes by “Gay Tony”. Both Fernando and Tony are prepared to get rid of everyone who stands in their way until they gain control over Liberty City. Unfortunately, they will also be involved in trouble with their family and friends, as not all of them are as sincere as they seem. Luis Fernando will cross paths with Johnny Klebitz and Nico Bellic on several occasions.

Gameplay

  • Choose the story: When first launching the game, you will be able to choose which of the three stories GTA IV to start with. You will also be able to access them in parallel since your progress will be saved so that you can pick up the plot exactly where you left off.
  • Open world: The GTA saga is characterized by having complete freedom of movement and being able to explore the map at your own pace. You can run, jump, climb, etc. Furthermore, you can drive a vast number of different vehicles. The protagonists can interact with most of the characters that you stumble across in the city.
  • The missions: You need to complete missions to progress through the game's story. Even so, there is no rush to complete them, and the player can spend as much time as he wants to explore the place at his own leisure and discover new horizons.
  • Deadly weapons: In a game where confrontations are always around, a good arsenal of weapons could not be missing. You'll find simpler items like knives or baseball bats, but you can also get your hands on the mighty RPG-7 or the Ithaca 37 shotgun.
  • Watch your back: In GTA IV: The Complete Edition, most of the actions that we carry out are not entirely legal and that is why on more than one occasion the police will be on the prowl. You will be able to avoid the cops by escaping from their search radius or by acting as an exemplary citizen from time to time. You can also distract the law by using your mobile phone to report false emergencies.

Graphics and sound

The developers of GTA IV: The Complete Edition promise that they've worked extremely hard to deliver a remastered version of the original GTA IV (2008). They have managed to create a high-definition version of the game, while perfectly maintaining the typical GTA atmosphere. Regarding sound, you will have access to highly entertaining radio stations as you cruise around Liberty City. The soundtrack was compiled by experts who tried to find songs that perfectly represent Liberty City's real-life counterpart: New York City.

Duration and game modes

GTA IV is a solo-only adventure. Hence, it does not feature a multiplayer mode. Gamers will have to complete a story in which they have to successfully pass a series of missions. The game has an approximate average duration of more than 30 hours. However, if you are a completionist, you are likely to spend close to 80 hours to achieve 100% completion.
