Save/Import your Messenger contacts

It is necessary to save or import messenger contacts to make a backup of the contacts list. Making a backup makes it easier to transfer messenger contacts from one instant messaging software account to another. In MSN messenger, the messaging contacts list can be saved on the hard disk. To import the messenger contact list into the new user account, simply import the saved contact list on the computer to the new messenger account through the MSN messenger application. Although it is an uncommon phenomenon on the internet, crashes can occur and therefore it is better to save or import messenger contacts to prevent loss of data.

Always make a backup of your contact list, it's very useful when creating a new Messenger account, or in case of problems.

Save the list of contacts

  • Open Windows Live Messenger.
  • Click on "Contacts" from the menu bar.
  • Then click on Save Instant Messaging contacts.

  • Choose a place in the HDD (documents, office ...) to deposit the backup.
    • You can change the name of the list, but the file name must end with ". Ctt.
    • Confirm with "Save."

Import contact list

Once the Messenger contact list is stored on the computer, simply import it into a new or a second Messenger. This avoids adding contacts one by one.
  • Open Windows Live Messenger.
  • Click on "Contacts" from the menu bar.
  • Then choose "Import Instant Messaging Contacts".
  • Select your previously saved list, then click "Open."
  • A warning message will pop up.
  • Click with "Yes".
  • The contacts will be added to your Messenger.
