Use Unicode (UTF-8) encoding for outgoing messages on Gmail

What character encoding does Gmail use?
Gmail uses UTF-8 encoding protocol. UTF-8 is an encoding format for Unicode, and is essentially identical to US-ASCII for unaccented Latin characters. Unicode covers all the characters for all the writing systems of the world, including ancient languages. It also encodes technical symbols, and other technical characters.
How to enable Unicode (UTF-8) For Outgoing Messages on Gmail
- Sign-in to your Gmail Account.
- Click the gear icon located in the upper-right corner (Options > Mail Settings).
- In the "General tab" , scroll to the "Outgoing message encoding" section and select "Use Unicode (UTF-8) encoding for outgoing messages"
- Click on the Save Changes button.
