Windows - How to remove the Windows Image Backup file?

I have noticed a folder on the D: drive named as "Windows Image Backup". The problem is that, the folder has a size of 55 GB. What is this? Can it be safely deleted?.

If you want to delete this backup file, should you already disabled the automatic backup feature of Windows.
  • Click on Start button > Control Panel > System and Maintenance> Backup and Restore.
  • In the left pane, click on "Turn Off Schedule".
  • From there you can delete or move the file.

Thanks to meli6612 for this tip.
